Day One of class I share with my students this quote:
‘Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.’--Howard Thurman
Teaching in an international setting fuses all that makes me come alive—literature, language, travel, intellectual curiosity, people. In keeping with the mission of ASM, I equip students to mature in critical/creative thinking and compassionate living. I help them make connections between literature and life, express themselves in writing and speaking expected at the university level, become lifelong learners.
I am from Nashville, Tennessee and have an adult daughter, Taylor, and son, Cole. I have an MA in English and over thirty years of experience in teaching university and high school students. I have graded for the AP Literature and Composition Exam, presented to teachers at international conferences, and spent summers leading educational tours abroad. Though I’ve taught English during summers in Ecuador and Italy, this is my first expat experience and I'm thrilled to be here. I chose Morocco because of its beauty, history, culture, and warm people.
As a writer I am excited about teaching Journalism as an elective. I look forward to seeing all of my students reaching their full potential this year and beyond.
